Dudley Walk, 4th May 2008

When the rain did stop (ocasionally) we looked impressive as a group in the t-shirts. We even had a few enquiries about the charity etc when we were all sitting in the pub after the walk - just the effect we wanted. The t-shirts are still being put to good use - 6 are now worn every Monday as it is now the new team colours for my nephews six a side football team who hold matches at the local leisure centre, and more are worn by other family members during their weekly darts competitions in the local pubs and clubs - so we are "spreading the word" as much as we can. Great South Run, Portsmouth Sunday 22nd October 2006
We have a team of 6 from Southampton General Hospital running in this event including surgeon Colin Johnson (a member of our Medical and Scientific Advisory Board), 2 medical students Tim Coulson and Nathan Curtis, and nurses Jo Dowle, Kay Anderson and James Dobbyrn. Surgeon Mr
Colin Johnson has said "fighting pancreatic cancer is a real challenge for
specialist services, and surgery alone is not enough. We need more research,
especially into earlier diagnosis, and better medical treatments. In
Southampton, we have an active patients support group, set up with help from
PCUK, so that patients and their families can help each other. PCUK has
clear objectives to help in these fields, and deserves all the support we
can give them." Mr Johnson has set himself a target of 100 minutes for the 10 mile
course. "For me, it will be a personal challenge to get round in that time,"
he said. "I am asking sponsors to consider a bonus donation if I can make
it" You can sponsor the team by emailing them at sotonpancreas @ yahoo.co.uk (without the spaces in email address). Mr Johnson finished in 1 hr 23:21 so beat his target well. Jo Dowle finished in 1hr 56:55, Kay Anderson in 1hr 38:19, Tim Coulson 1hr 41:34 and Nathan Curtis in 1hr 18:23. Almost £3000 was raised.

They were joined by Trace's wife Joy and along with 20-30,000 other runners ran from Hyde Park Corner, past the Ritz, St James's Palace, St Paul's Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament.
Trace, Arj and Joy completed the British 10K London run in just under one hour in sweltering heat. It had taken them half an hour to cross the start line! It is gratifying at these events when passers-by or fellow runners stop to say " I am glad you are doing something for pancreatic cancer" etc.
