Pancreatic Cancer Professional Organisations

The Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland

The Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland has various functions related to pancreatic cancer. Firstly it runs an Annual Meeting for two days every November which is for clinicians and scientists with an interest in the pancreas. At the meeting they provide educational sessions and they present research papers from within the UK and also invite speakers from around the world to give keynote lectures and updates. Also on the website are details of other facilities provided by the Pancreatic Society. This includes a list of UK specialists, who are members of the Pancreatic Society. The Pancreatic Society also funds several bursaries for young researchers to attend international meetings and also provides a fellowship once a year for a pancreatic trainee specialist to visit a centre abroad.

There is a specialist nurse representative within the society. An increasing number of pancreatic and Upper GI specialist nurses attend the annual meeting each year and they are starting to organise their own meetings. Specialist nurses are encouraged to contact Christina Pollard, the nurse representative on the Pancreatic Society for Great Britain and Ireland, for further information about the specialist nurse group which aims to share information between nurses throughout the UK and to feed back progress and concerns to the committee members. Contact details are: Ms Christina Pollard, Specialist Nurse, Department of Surgery, Leicester General Hospital, Gwendolen Road, Leicester, LE5 4PW

Sixth Pancreatic Cancer Nurse National Meeting will be held on 14th October 2008, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham - pancreatic cancer study day for nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team with an interest in pancreatic cancer. Contact us or Christina Pollard for more info.
