statement by Prof Davidson on services 27 Feb 2004:

The Royal Free and University College London Hospital have formed a joint pancreatic cancer centre with pancreatic cancer surgery being carried out at the Royal Free Hospital.

We have five specialist pancreatic cancer surgeons and are currently the largest unit within the London region.

The surgical team is supported by exceptional endoscopic and interventional radiology and 1,500 patients per year are referred for an assessment of their biliary tract.

A significant portion of these prove to have pancreatic tumours.

The surgical and gastroenterology infrastructure is supported by full oncology and palliative care services.

The clinical work is supported by a programme of laboratory and clinically based research.
