What is a Community Event?
This is any event not centred around a sporting activity. The
most classic charity community event would probably be the coffee
morning - a great way to get donations in the office, at school or
through a local church or community group.
Many fundraisers will hold one or several community events when
raising funds towards a larger specific goal. For example, our
charitable place runners for the London Marathon are asked to raise
£3,000. By hosting a pub quiz, collecting change at work and
putting on a small community concert with a raffle, a runner could
easily reach the £3,000 they have pledged. This way they are doing
more than simply asking for donations based on their participation
in the run - they are giving people a fun night out or helping them
get rid of those weighty 1, 2 and 5p pieces.
But often a community event will be a one-off. Every little
helps and if you want to show your support to Pancreatic Cancer UK
by selling purple cupcakes or hosting a fundraising ball, you can
do that too and we're happy to help you out along the
way.
Ideas for community events:
- Coffee morning - bake sales - dress down day - non-uniform
day - supermarket collection - pub quiz - car boot sale -
tombola/raffle - birthday/anniversary/wedding collection - festival
or fair - head shave - charity ball/gala evening - concert
These are just a few of the events people have done for
Pancreatic Cancer UK, either on their own or as a way to reach a
larger fundraising target. We're always eager to hear from you so
if you have an idea you'd like to share, please let us
know!
