TRANSBIL
Title: A trial looking at the Mcm5 protein test for diagnosing
cancer of the bile duct, gallbladder or pancreas (TRANSBIL)
Full title: TRANSBIL (Biliary MCM5 Study)-
Diagnosis of pancreatobiliary malignancy by detection of
minichromosome maintenance proteins in cytological specimens
Why is this trial being carried out?
Cancer of the bile duct, gall bladder or pancreas is usually
diagnosed with blood tests, scans and a biopsy, but diagnosis is
not always straightforward.
The new Mcm5 test (so called because it looks for the Mcm5
protein) might be better at diagnosing these cancers, although
doctors do not yet know how good it will be.
This trial is to make sure that the Mcm5 test is accurate and
reliable. If so, it can be more widely used to diagnose cancer in
future. Patients taking part will have the Mcm5 test as well as the
usual tests, not instead of them.
Who is the trial suitable for?
This trial is suitable for patients who have cancer of the bile
duct, gall bladder or pancreas or who are having tests for these
cancers. It is also suitable for patients who have a benign
(non-cancerous) condition of the bile duct, gall bladder or
pancreas. Your doctor(s) will explain any other requirements to
join the trial.
