PERU
Title: A study to compare UFT chemotherapy and radiotherapy
with or without cetuximab following initial GemCap chemotherapy
(PERU)
Full title: A muliticentre randomised phase II
clinical study of UFT/Leucovorin, radiotherapy with or without
Cetuximab following induction gemcitabine plus capecitabine in
patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer (PERU)
Phase II Trial
Why is this trial being carried out?
Chemotherapy followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy together
(chemoradiation) is sometimes used to treat pancreatic cancer that
cannot be removed with surgery and has not spread to other parts of
the body. Researchers now want to find out if small changes to this
treatment plan will improve it.
This trial is looking at which treatment plan works best: GemCap
chemotherapy (a combination of gemcitabine and capecitabine)
followed by UFT/Leucovorin chemotherapy and radiotherapy or GemCap
chemotherapy followed by UFT/Leucovorin chemotherapy with cetuximab
(a type of drug called a monoclonal antibody) and radiotherapy. The
trial will also look at ways to tell in advance how effective a
treatment may be.
Who is the trial suitable for?
This trial is suitable for patients with pancreatic cancer that
cannot be removed with surgery and has not spread to other parts of
the body. Your doctor(s) will explain these and any other
requirements to join the trial.
