Verteporfin PDT
Title: A trial of verteporfin photodynamic therapy for
pancreatic cancer that cannot be removed with surgery
Phase I Trial
Why is this trial being carried out?
Researchers are always looking for new ways to treat pancreatic
cancer that cannot be removed with surgery. One treatment is
photodynamic therapy (PDT), which uses a low-power laser combined
with a light-sensitive drug to destroy cancer cells.
This trial is using a light-sensitive drug called verteporfin.
It is looking at whether PDT using verteporfin is safe and
effective for pancreatic cancer patients. It will also look at the
side effects of verteporfin.
Who is the trial suitable for?
This trial is suitable for patients with pancreatic cancer that
cannot be removed with surgery and has not spread to other parts of
the body. Patients must also not have had any other cancer
treatment within four weeks of starting the trial. Your doctor(s)
will explain these and any other requirements to join the
trial.
