HIPPoS
Short title: A study of GDC-0449 medication given before
surgery to patients with Pancreatic Cancer (HIPPoS Study)
Full title: Proof of mechanism study of an oral
hedgehog inhibitor (GDC-0449) in patients with resectable
pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma in the pre-operative window
period
Phase II Trial
Why is this trial being carried out?
This study is looking at the effect of a new study medication,
GDC-0449, in patients with cancer of the pancreas that can be
removed by surgery. The study medication has been developed by
Roche-Genentech as an anti-cancer treatment. Laboratory studies
have shown that this study medication blocks a form of chemical
signalling between cells thought to be involved in the development
and spread of pancreatic cancer. However it is not clear whether
blocking this process affects the tumour itself or the surrounding
normal tissue. Understanding this aspect will help scientists
improve treatments for pancreatic cancer.
Who is the trial suitable for?
This trial may be suitable for patients, who have pancreatic
cancer that can be removed by surgery, have undergone a diagnostic
biopsy, and who can take GDC-0449 for 14 days before their
operation. Your doctor(s) will explain these and any other
requirements to join the trial.
