Are there any side effects of enzyme supplements?

There are a few side effects linked with taking enzyme supplements, but these are rare. Some people get tummy discomfort or pain, nausea, or vomiting when taking pancreatic enzyme supplements. Less common side effects include bloating, cramping, feeling full, and loose watery poo (diarrhoea). You can find more about the side effects in the leaflet that comes with your enzyme supplements.

These symptoms can are more commonly caused by the dose of enzyme supplements being too low, rather than a side effect of the supplements. Increasing the dose may help to reduce these symptoms. Speak to your doctor, nurse or dietitian if you have any of these symptoms. They may suggest taking more supplements or changing your enzyme supplement brand.
