Side by Side peer support
Having surgery for pancreatic cancer can be a difficult and worrying time, and it can help to talk things through with someone who knows what it is like. Side by Side is a telephone support service for people with pancreatic cancer who have had, or are likely to have, surgery to remove their cancer, for example a Whipple's operation. It gives you the chance to speak to a trained volunteer who has been in a similar situation to your own.
For information about the service please ring our Support Line on 0808 801 0707
The Support Line is open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.

- One of our Support Line Nurses will take details from you about your situation and what you would like to discuss.
- Your name, telephone number and brief details about your situation will be shared with a volunteer who will then call you.
- We will ask you what times are most convenient for the volunteer to call you and whether you are happy for them to leave a message if you are unavailable.
- Your volunteer will try to call you within 7 days of you asking for the service.
We try to match you with a volunteer who has had a similar experience to you. They cannot answer medical questions or offer you advice, but they can listen, offer emotional support, practical tips and share their own experience with you.
Yes. Calls made with your trained volunteer are confidential and will not be discussed with anyone outside the service. We use a business calling system that means your telephone number will not appear on your volunteer’s phone bill and your contact details will be securely stored by your volunteer and destroyed after your final contact with them.
