For those of you who have been following the charity a little while, you may remember a local support group set up in Dorset last year. The PAnPAls, as they are known, meet locally and share their pancreatic cancer experiences to support one another. For Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month they held a Dream Auction, and Debbie Wells, Involvement Coordinator is here to tell us all about it…
"On Friday November 2nd over two hundred people gathered in Poundbury near Dorchester for the PAnPAls - (Dorset Support Group) - Dream Auction featuring local MP Oliver Letwin as the auctioneer for the evening.
The auction proved to be a huge success with wine and canapés available and a splendid array of raffle prizes on offer in addition to the Dreams that were up for auction. These included several lovely dinners at local restaurants, a week in a Cornish cottage, a couple of rare arts prints, a tour of the BBC Newsrooms for 6 people kindly donated by Huw Edwards, who lost his own father to pancreatic cancer, a luxury weekend away in the best hotel on Majorca and dinner with local residents Lord and Lady Fellowes together with Downton Abbey memorabilia!
Oliver Letwin proved to be a very accomplished auctioneer and certainly kept the bids flowing- the final total raised is nearly £6,000 and still rising.
This was a fantastic achievement on the part of the Pan Pals group who only formed a year ago and have already made a name for themselves in the local area. A great achievement showing what team effort and a united approach can achieve.
The group are already beginning to think about next November and we look forward to further successful events in the future!"
