Today Dr Alasdair McDonnell MP tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) calling for more research spending for pancreatic cancer. His EDM, number 175 in the current session can be found here.
EDMs are a way for MPs to show that they support a cause or an issue and, whilst they do not lead to a debate or a vote, they can act as a tool for demonstrating strength of feeling on particular issues.
Ask your MP to support the EDM
They can do this by asking the Common's Table Office to add their name to the list. However, please note that not all MPs are allowed to sign - e.g. those who are Ministers - and others will not sign EDMs as a matter of principle. In that case they might like to write to the Secretary of State for Health instead, or show their support in some other way.
We've suggested another way for them to support the charity and pancreatic cancer research in our template letter/email, which can be found here. Feel free to modify it to share your own experiences if possible, as it is the personal touch which makes all the difference.
The All Party Parliamentary Group on Pancreatic Cancer is currently conducting an inquiry in pancreatic cancer research. Pancreatic Cancer UK acts as the APPG's Secretariat, supporting the MPs and Peers in their work. You can read more about what has happened in the inquiry so far, and what is yet to come, on the APPG page of our website.
