Our Chair and Trustee, Sarah Roberts, is taking part in our Trek Together Grand Canyon Challenge in October and she’s asking you to join her! Read our Q & A with her to find out why.
How are you involved with Pancreatic Cancer UK?
I am the outgoing Chair of Pancreatic Cancer UK. I have been involved with the charity since 2010 when there was just one full time employee - the CEO - and a part time assistant! The transformation of Pancreatic Cancer UK over the last seven years has been truly inspiring.
Why did you choose to take part in the Trek Together Grand Canyon Challenge?
Sadly I am stepping down as Chair at the end of June and I wanted to celebrate by doing a challenge that supports the fantastic work of the charity. My husband, Paul, and I really enjoy walking and I have always wanted to visit the canyon, so this challenge seemed tailor made for us!
How are you preparing for the challenge?
My husband and I walk regularly and we recently spent three days walking in the Lake District. As part of our training were are taking part in a three day walking trip in September. We’re generally fit and active - Paul plays a lot of tennis, I walk a lot and do pilates. I’ve also set up our fundraising page. Fingers crossed we will raise a good amount of money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
What are you most looking forward to?
The scenery and meeting my fellow trekkers!
What are you least looking forward to?
Watching Paul try to put up the tent and sleeping on the hard ground.
What would you say to anyone thinking about doing the challenge?
Go for it! This is the second oversea charity challenge we have done. The last one was 11 years ago and I can remember it as though it was yesterday. Exploring a new part of the world, challenging yourself, meeting new people...and all for a great cause. Why wouldn’t you.
