A tribute byAmber McCormick-Thompson

Sara had a huge personality and an even bigger heart. Sara was born in Hockley, Essex on 10th May 1964 being the youngest daughter to Nancy and Brian McCormick, she had 2 sisters, Jane and Anna.

The family moved to London shortly after Sara was born and resided in the Turk's Head in Belgravia where Nancy and Brian were the landlords. Sara was a happy child and could often be seen in the bar regaling customers with her version of Edelweiss.

Sara loved her family holidays and had had very fond memories of rock pooling on the beaches in Cornwall.

Sadly Nancy and Brian separated in 1969 and Sara moved to Raynes Park with Nancy and Anna.

2 years later Brian moved to Wadebridge and Sara was able to continue with her love of Cornwall where she spent many happy summer holidays with Anna and Jane.

Sara trained as a hairdresser in her late teens - but her favourite occupation was looking after small children working as a nanny.

As a young adult Sara met and fell in love with George, and when George moved to New York Sara very quickly joined him. Sara took to life in New York and went back to her original career of hairdressing.

2 years later Sara was delighted to announce to the family that she was expecting a baby and Amber was born on 24th October 1991. When Sara was expecting her second baby she moved back home to London and Charlie was born 30th October 1993 and Sara's family was complete.

Sara and George separated while Amber and Charlie were still very young - Sara was a loving and devoted single mum as well as being a strong independent person.

When Nancy retired she bought a small house on the island of Serifos in Greece and Sara continued her love of family holidays, taking Amber and Charlie for many long visits and once again enjoying her love of the beach.

Sara loved company and as Amber and Charlie grew from teenagers to young adults Sara's door was always open with a very warm welcome.

When Nancy passed away very suddenly in 2012 Sara was devastated - as not only had she lost her mum - but also her best friend and confidant.

Sara was left with a huge void in her life. Gladly this void was filled the following year when Amber gave birth to baby Ivy. Sara loved being a granny and Ivy bought such a new joy into Sara's life.

Sara sadly lost her battle with cancer and on 16th May 2017 she passed away peacefully at home with her family.

Sara will not only be missed by Amber, Charlie, Ivy, Jane and Anna - but also by all those who knew her. She will always be in our hearts and thoughts.
