A tribute byMaxine Russell
In memory of Julie, beloved wife, mother and ouma, who died 11 October 2017 only 3 months from diagnosis. This poem by Miles that reflects how we are all feeling:
• I’ll try not to cry when you’ve gone
Instead I’ll remember you for the light that shone.
• Do you remember when you drove me to school?
And the fun times we had in our swimming pool?
• Remember the storms and the smell of the rain
Fishing and camping on the African plains
• Remember the times we sat drinking sun downers
A glass in our hand and family around us.
• Summer has always been your time of year
A time for gardening, that gave you good cheer.
• Times were not always easy for me,
But you helped me through my difficulties.
• When I struggled or failed a test
Your advice was always ‘you can only do your best’.
• You helped me achieve beyond expectation,
I hope I have repaid you with love and affection.
• Put aside heart ache and sadness
Look at your family and feel heartfelt gladness.
• I’ll miss you, your loving touch
Your smile, your laughter, your hugs
I will miss you so much.
• I’ll try not to cry when you’ve gone
Instead I’ll remember you for the light that shone.
• Do you remember when you drove me to school?
And the fun times we had in our swimming pool?
• Remember the storms and the smell of the rain
