Campaigners holding placards - Early Diagosis, Better Treatment

Our work is shaped by your lived experience

At Pancreatic Cancer UK, we strive to put the voices of the pancreatic cancer community at the heart of everything we do.

Will you bring more than hope? Every experience of pancreatic cancer is different, and we want to hear from a variety of voices. We are continuously developing ways to get involved for people affected by pancreatic cancer, to shape and inform our work.

What is lived experience participation at Pancreatic Cancer UK?

Participation is the involvement of people who have been affected by pancreatic cancer in our work at Pancreatic Cancer UK.  Whether you have a diagnosis, are caring for someone living with a diagnosis, or have sadly lost a loved one to pancreatic cancer – we welcome you to get in touch.

When you register your interest in new volunteering and participation opportunities, we will contact you when new opportunities to get involved arise.

Opportunities are flexible, so however much time you opt to give, and whatever the activity you sign up to, it will significantly contribute to improving the lives of people affected by pancreatic cancer. We strive to make opportunities accessible and inclusive, and ensure there is plenty of opportunity to feedback on how you find the experience.

What’s the difference between being a volunteer and lived experience participant?

  • Participation focuses on drawing from your experience of pancreatic cancer, whereas you don’t need to have experience of pancreatic cancer to volunteer with us
  • As a participant you represent yourself and your personal experience, as a volunteer you represent Pancreatic Cancer UK through your volunteering
  • You can be a participant and a volunteer at the same time

Examples of participation opportunities:

  • Complete a survey on how health services in pancreatic cancer can be improved
  • Review our health information to make it more accessible and inclusive for all, including; our leaflets, webpages and information videos
  • Share your views in a focus group to help shape a campaign or project
  • Join a project team to help design a new service
