Following on from the success of the 2022 Discovery and Translational Research Forum we are really pleased to announce details for the 2023 Forum. This will be on the 26th and 27th June 2023 in Oxford, UK.  We will be bringing the research community together again to discuss some of the priority challenges faced by discovery and translational researchers in the UK and how we can work together to overcome them. The themes have changed for this year – please see Topics of Discussion below.

The ability of UK researchers to address the key questions in disease initiation and progression will only ever be as good as our understanding of those issues. By discussing and developing collaborative networks to tackle the research challenges faced, we can maximise the potential and efficiency of a small but dedicated research community in the UK. The 2022 Forum was productive and collaborative, with insightful discussions and certainly set a strong baseline to keep conversations progressing in the 2023 forum.

This year we will also be incorporating a session on the Tuesday afternoon for early career researchers (ECR). This is being designed by an ECR committee to focus on specific challenges and opportunities for the ECR community. The agenda is being finalised but will include:

  • Career talk with a senior researcher
  • Panel discussion with senior researcher, early career and post-doctoral researchers at different stages of their careers
  • Group debate

More details to follow.

Topics of discussion

Over the two-day forum event we will focus on the following key areas of research in the detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer:

  1. How can preclinical studies improve clinical trials?
  2. Detecting and treating early disease
  3. Targeting the host
  4. Targeting the tumour cells

Within these areas we will hear from researchers across the UK who will share their work-in-progress, deepening the community’s knowledge of the current work being carried out across the UK.  We will discuss the opportunities and challenges the community faces to help us understand how we can put in place the resources, collaborations and investment needed to further build significant momentum in discovery and translational research in the UK. If you are interested in presenting your work, please do submit a short summary of your research with your registration form.

The aims of the forum

  • Serve as forum for discussion and sharing for the discovery & translational research community
  • Enable connection and collaboration between researchers
  • Discuss shared challenges and potential ways to overcome them
  • Showcase discovery & translational research occurring across the UK to give the community a better understanding of what research is happening where
  • Identify ways for PCUK to better support the discovery & translational research community
  • Provide networking and development opportunities for early career researchers
