We teamed up with Pancreatic Cancer Action, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Neuroendocrine Cancer UK and Guts UK to deliver a free evening webinar on the PERT shortage guidance.

Designed for GPs and pharmacists, at this event we discussed what to do if a patient is running low or cannot get PERT. There was also an opportunity to ask your questions to a panel of specialists.

Our speakers


Rachel Richardson
Specialist Pancreatic Cancer Nurse, Pancreatic Cancer UK
Rachel has worked in many varied roles within the NHS for 20 years including cardiothoracic intensive care, acute stroke, clinical audit, cancer service improvement and hospital discharge liaison. Rachel’s most recent post in the NHS was as an Upper GI Nurse. Rachel then joined Pancreatic Cancer UK at the end of 2017 and her time in the nursing team has enabled her to develop her knowledge and expertise in pancreatic cancer. Rachel’s day to day role is working alongside our other specialist nurses on our support service, supporting patients and family members impacted by this devastating disease. Rachel has a keen interest in complex symptom management for this patient group with the aim of maximising day to day quality of life.

Mary Phillips
Senior Specialist HPB Dietitian, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Mary graduated from the University of Surrey in 2000, and for the last 21 years has been working with the pancreatic surgical team at the Royal Surrey in Guildford. Her main clinical and research interest is in the management of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, and she is currently undertaking her PhD in the long-term consequences of pancreatic resection.

Ade Williams
Superintendent Pharmacist and Director of the M J Williams Pharmacy and lead Pharmacist at the Bedminster Pharmacy, Bristol
Ade is a multi-award-winning Community Pharmacist based in South Bristol. He is the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Patient Champion. Widely acknowledged as an advocate of innovation in delivering pharmacy-based, cost-effective population health solutions. As a clinician, he contributes to designing more accessible care delivery models and more equitable pathway journeys. He is the Pharmacy Ambassador of the Pancreatic Cancer Action charity. Recognition for his work includes an MBE for services to the NHS, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s highest accolades—the Charter Award, and the NHS Parliamentary Award for Excellence in Primary Care.

Kerry-Lee Watson
CF Specialist Dietitian, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Kerry is the Clinical Lead CF dietitian (adults) at King’s College Hospital (London). She has worked in cystic fibrosis for over 20 years. Alongside her clinical work, she has co-authored guidelines and contributed to published research. Recently she stepped down from her role as Co-chair for the BDA CF Specialist group, having worked with several colleagues on numerous projects i.e. NHS CF Toolkit and the CF Trust Standards of Care and the Position Statement for PERT shortages. She thoroughly enjoys working in CF as it is so multidimensional.

Sian Bentley
Consultant Pharmacist, Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust
Siân is a Consultant Pharmacist for Paediatric Chronic Suppurative Lung Diseases (CSLD), with over 20 years’ experience of working with families and children with lung conditions, including CF, at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. Her passion is improving medicines optimisation for children with CSLD. She is deputy chair of the UK CF pharmacy group, pharmacy representative on the European CF Society education committee, steering committee member of the NPPG Respiratory Interest Group, and is actively involved in a number of projects within CF both nationally and internationally.

Anthony Cunliffe
Macmillan National Lead Medical Adviser and Macmillan Clinical Adviser for London, and Joint Clinical Director, South East London Cancer Alliance
Anthony has been a GP for 17 years and practices part time in South London. He started working for Macmillan Cancer Support in 2012 as a Macmillan GP Facilitator. He subsequently became a GP Advisor and is now the National Lead Medical Adviser and the Clinical Adviser for London. Anthony is also the joint clinical director for the South East London Cancer Alliance. Anthony has experience of working throughout the cancer pathway having been National Prevention and Diagnosis lead at Macmillan and a GPSI in End of Life Care but his passion is to ensure all people living with cancer receive good quality personalised care.
