We teamed up with specialist dietitians to deliver this free, virtual educational session for healthcare professionals exploring the nutritional assessment and management of pancreatic cancer.
Northern Ireland Study Session: Nutritional management in pancreatic disease | November 2021 | Virtual
We teamed up with the Belfast and Southern Health and Social Care Trusts to deliver this free, two-part event on nutritional management in pancreatic disease, designed for dietitians based in Northern Ireland. Part one explored the surgical management of pancreatic diseases and nutritional management of acute and chronic pancreatitis. Part two explored the nutritional management of pancreatic cancer and type 3c diabetes.
PERT and pancreatic cancer - an online educational session | 21st October 2021 | Virtual
We teamed up with senior specialist HPB dietitian, Mary Phillips, to deliver this free online education session on pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT). The session explored what pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) is and how to recognise and diagnose PEI, and what pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) is, the impact it can have on patients’ symptoms and quality of life, and how to advise your patients on effective use of PERT and troubleshooting.
National Study Sessions 2021: Enhanced supportive care | October 2021 | Virtual
This year’s National Study Sessions explored enhanced supportive care (ESC) in pancreatic cancer. We ran a selection of free, virtual events throughout October on: symptom assessment and management (7th); effective communications (12th); emotional support (19th); end of life care (26th); and models of practice in ESC (28th).
Pancreatic Cancer Regional Study Session - South West | 5th July 2021 | Virtual
We teamed up with the HPB team at Derriford Hospital to deliver this free, online event designed for all healthcare professionals working with pancreatic cancer patients in the South West. The session explored key areas of a pancreatic cancer patient’s pathway from diagnosis and treatment to nutritional management and palliative care.

We teamed up with the Macmillan Primary Care Cancer Framework to deliver this free webinar for all healthcare professionals working in primary care in Wales. The session explored: early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer; pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI), pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) and diabetes; and opportunities to improve patient care in primary care.

This free, online, two-part event was designed for all health care professionals working in supportive roles with people with pancreatic cancer. The sessions explored key areas of a pancreatic cancer patient’s pathway including: an overview of pancreatic cancer; the emotional impact of pancreatic cancer diagnosis and how you can support your patients while looking after yourself; the importance of prehabilitation and rehabilitation; treatment options; palliative and end of life care; dietetic management; fatigue management; and pain management.
An Introduction to Pancreatic Cancer | 12th November 2020 | Virtual
This free virtual education session is aimed at all healthcare professionals with no or limited pancreatic cancer experience.
Chaired by Patient & Carer Board Member, Lesley Gooburn, in the session, we were joined by Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer, NHS and Donna Adcock, Deputy Chief Nurse, North West London University who both shared their personal experiences of pancreatic cancer. Our Specialist Pancreatic Cancer Nurse, Lynne McCallum then gave an introduction to pancreatic cancer, sharing how pancreatic cancer presents, the symptoms associated with this disease and the ongoing supportive care needs of people with pancreatic cancer.
National Study Sessions 2020 | October 2020 | Virtual
Every October we hold our National Study Day, bringing together health professionals from around the country to learn about the latest developments in pancreatic cancer.
This year, in light of everything going on, we brought everyone together at a variety of virtual sessions across the month exploring how we can improve patients’ experience through treatment, dietetic management and emotional support.
Annual Summit 2020 | September 2020 | Virtual
In March we had to postpone our Annual Summit in light of the coronavirus pandemic. As we enter the recovery phase of the pandemic, we must not lose the amazing momentum the pancreatic cancer community has gathered to find innovative solutions to maintain treatment and care. And so we brought the Summit back in September covering the same vital topics through virtual sessions.
There were three, 2-hour sessions essential for anyone with an interest in pancreatic cancer from health professionals, researchers and policy makers to patients, carers and supporters.

Emotional Support & Pancreatic Cancer | 2nd March 2020 | London
This was a free educational session facilitated by Counselling Psychologist, Lucy Davidson and Clinical Psychologist, Emma Porter.
Specifically designed for Clinical Nurse Specialists working with pancreatic cancer patients, this workshop offered an opportunity in an interactive and informal setting, to explore and reflect on some of the emotional challenges of pancreatic cancer. Attendees refreshed and enhanced their psychological skills, developed a better understanding of patient needs and considered the impact that this work has on them.
Dietetic Management & Pancreatic Cancer | 9 October 2019 | Leeds
This was a free educational session about dietetic management in pancreatic cancer, run in partnership with the Dietetic team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
This event was open to all dietitians, specialists and non-specialists who are hospital or hospice based or in the community, as well as student dietitians.
Delegates learnt about the implications, consequences and nutritional management of patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Our annual National Study Day brought together nurses and dietitians from around the country to learn about the latest developments in pancreatic cancer.
We explored how we can improve patients’ experience and cater to unmet needs. We discussed dietary and nutritional management, psychological support, pathways for surgical and inoperable patients, palliative care and early diagnosis. We also heard from people with personal experiences of pancreatic cancer and we heard about practical examples of good practice care in the field.
